2014 Class 1A Coaching Changes

New Hires: 15
Best Hire: Ronnie Cottrell, Chickasaw

Region 1

Chickasaw - Ronnie Cottrell takes over the head coaching duties at the new school and is set to build a program. He has been a head football coach at Alma Bryant, Carroll, W.S. Neal, Flomaton and Kinston with an overall record of 58-51 in ten seasons.

J.F. Shields - After not fielding a team the past three seasons, J.F. Shields will be back on the field this fall. The team will be led by Greg Maye as they undertake rebuilding a football prgram at the school. Maye has served as the basketball coach at J.F. Shields.

Marengo - Dredrick Bell left the Marengo football program during the off season after three years at the school. His three teams produced an 8-23 record combined. Eberne Myrthil will assume the head football coaching duties this fall. Myrthil spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the head coach at Choctaw County where his two teams finished a combined 7-13.

McIntosh - Kendric Cook leaves McIntosh after a single season with a record of 2-8. Warren Roberts Jr. was named the head football coach this summer and will direct the program this fall in his first stint as a head football coach.

Millry - Charlie Taylor leaves Millry after going 10-20 in three seasons and not making the playoffs. Billy Gardner takes over the program after serving as the head coach at Citronelle (2010-11) and Millry (2010). His three teams finished a combined 11-20.



Region 2

Pleasant Home - Cody McCain leaves Pleasant Home after two years with a record of 6-14. Chris Mason will take over the reins of the football program when fall practice begins in August. He was an assistant at Prattville Christian Academy.

Florala - Bubba Nall leaves Florala after a 6-4 campaign in his only season at the school. Brad Rhodes takes over the football program this fall after two seasons as the head coach at Monroe County. His two teams finished a combine 5-15. A native of Troy he served as an assistant at Charles Henderson for eleven years.



Region 3

Notasulga - James Lucas leaves Notasulga after going 22-22 in four seasons at the helm. Robert Langford was hired to fill the vacancy left by McCain in March. Langford played football at Notasulga from 1983-1985 and later graduated from Troy. He served as an assistant at Beauregard for nine seasons. This will be his first head coaching assignment.



Region 4

A.L. Johnson - After serving as the head football coach the past 21 seasons at A.L. Johnson, Mose Jones resigned following last season. His overall record with the school stands at 113-108 over the past 21 years. Johnny Ford will take over the program from the longtime coach. He was an assistant under Jones last season. Ford, a graduate of Linden, served as an assistant at Anniston before returning to Linden for 13 years as an assistant coach.

Ellwood Christian - Mike Stokes left following the end of last season after three years at Ellwood with a record of 7-25. Eric Martinear will take the field as the head football coach this fall. He was the offensive line coach at Concordia College last season. In 2012 he served as an assistant at Selma.



Region 5

Talladega County Central - Damien Dorsey leaves after two seasons and a record of 8-13. Chris Mahand returns to Central after serving as the head coach from 2006-08. His three teams finished a combined 23-7 losing to Sweet Water in the 2007 title game in Tuscaloosa. He was the head coach at Talladega the past four years with a record of 6-34.

Victory Christian - Bobby Fairley resigned to spend time with his family following last season. His only team at Victory Christian produced a record of 1-9. Mark Sanders was named the new head football coach in May. This will be his first head coaching job after spending last year as an assistant at Coosa Christian. He is a 2001 graduate of Ashville and played football at Alabama.



Region 6

Marion County - Russell Funk resigned to accept the head coaching position at Curry. His five teams at Marion County produced a record of 45-17 including a state championship in 2011 with a 14-1 record. Brandon Wilcox was named the new head coach in Guin during the off season. This will be his first head coaching job. Wilcox is a 2001 graduate of T.R. Miller and served as an assistant at Verbena, Carroll, Dale County and Enterprise before this year.



Region 7

Coosa Christian - Scott Clifton served as the head coach for a single season at Coosa Christian before leaving the program at the end f last year. His one team went 3-7. Jason Touart was hired to fill the vacancy. Not only will this be his first head coaching job, it is his first coaching assignment of any kind.

Woodville - Franklin Pritchett



Region 8

Vina - James Phar stepped aside during the off season to focus on his duties as principal. Luke Childers assumes the position as the head football coach this fall after serving two seasons as an assistant at the school.

Waterloo - Matt Brooks leaves Waterloo after a single season at the helm and a 1-9 record. Brad Palmer will take over the program this fall in his first stint as a head football coach.
