AHSFHS.org Report
(Oct. 6, 2013)

Week 6

Six games into the 2013 season and the region games become more important than ever for teams working to make the playoffs. Here are a few tidbits from the sixth week of high school football action.

   *  Hoover thrashed Bessemer City 48-7 on Friday to continue their winning streak. The Bucs lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty-one game unbeaten streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 38 game winning streak after a hard fought 38-35 victory over Coosa Valley Academy on Friday.

   *   The Central Hayneville Lions had lost 56 consecutive games until Friday night. All that changed when the Lions defeated Zion Chapel by a score of 38-12. Congratulations to the Lions on their huge win. It is a testament to their hard work and never die attitude. Butler takes over the dubious honor of having the longest losing streak in the state with a string of twenty-five consecutive losses. They are followed closely by Red Level (22), Bullock County (21) and Woodville (21).

   *   Central had also lost 40 consecutive region games in a row prior to Friday night. That unwanted honor now belongs to Bullock County with a streak of twenty-nine consecutive region games where they have ended on the losing end. Cherokee would have been in the new leader except for the fact that they defeated Phil Campbell to win their first region game after losing 29 in a row.

   *  Piedmont extends their regular season winning streak to 29 games following a 68-13 win over White Plains. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 29 games in the AISA.

   *  After a season-opening loss, Tanner continues to roll with an impressive 56-12 thumping of Colbert Heights.and maintains their streak of 32 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy continues a streak of 31 games.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins in a row with a streak of 30 games after 63-6 win over Ellwood Christian on the road. Dadeville (28), Hoover (28) and Tanner (28) are close behind after they all played on the road.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 335 games without being shutout following a 47-0 win over Cottage Hill Christian.

   *  According to our records Colbert County won their 600th game in the history of the school. The Indians overall all-time record now stands at 600-342-24 for a winning percentage of 63.7%.
