Week 5

Five games into the 2013 season saw most teams playing a variety of non-region games with some interesting results. Here are a few tidbits from the fifth week of high school football action.

   *  Hoover beat rival Vestavia Hills 17-7 on Friday to continue their winning streak. The Bucs lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty game unbeaten streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 37 game winning streak after a hard fought 24-21 win over Autauga Academy on Friday.

   *   The Central Hayneville Lions have lost 56 consecutive games following their 37-14 loss to Montgomery Academy. Central has also lost 40 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  Piedmont extends their regular season winning streak to 28 games following a 26-10 win over Leeds. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 28 games in the AISA.

   *  After the season-opening loss, Tanner continues to roll with an impressive 42-6 victory over R.A. Hubbard and maintains their streak of 31 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy continues a streak of 30 games.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins in a row with a streak of 30 games after a great come-from-behind win over Sweet Water 27-24. Dadeville (28), Hoover (28) and Tanner (28) are close behind.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 334 games without being shutout.

   *   Edgewood Academy had scored at least 30 points in a game for an amazing 31 games in a row. That streak came to an end on Friday with the 24-21 win over Autauga Academy. That is an all-time state record. The longest streak in the AHSAA is held by Sweet Water between 2007-08 with a streak of 22 games.

   *  Muscle Shoals outscored their first five opponents by a combined score of 226-7 by beating Rogers 56-0, Russellville 41-0, Lawrence County 49-0, Athens 35-0 and Dora 45-7. The defense allowed their only TD of the season with just over two minutes remaining in the game on a 57 yard pass play.
