Week 14 - Semi-finals of the playoffs

The teams in the Super Six Championships are set. A dozen teams are on their way toTuscaloosa. Here are a few interesting facts from this weekend's high school football action.

   *  Hoover reaches the Super Six for the thirteenth time in the last fourteen seasons. The Bucs came from behind again to defeat Vestavia Hills 31-28 in the semi-finals of the playoffs. They lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty-nine game unbeaten streak.

  *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins with a streak of 35 games after 31-8 victory over defending state champs Brantley at home. Hoover (33) and Tanner (32) are close behind after last week's action.

Other Notes:

The Maplesville offense can make history if they score 29 points against Pickens County on Thursday. The Red Devils have scored 733 points this season and are within reach of the all-time record set by Demopolis in 2004 with 761 points scored in a season.

Hoover leads all teams with 16 semi-final round wins. Their record all-time stands at 15-1. Sweet Water is 11-5 and UMS-Wright is 7-4 in the semi-finals.

Super Six Notes:

Auburn will be making their first appearance in any state championship game. They are joined by Muscle Shoals in class 5A. All the other ten teams have played in title games previously.

If Hoover wins, they will trail only Hazlewood (11) in state championships. The Bucs are currently tied with Tuscaloosa and Sweet Water with nine championships. Hoover already holds the record for most title game appearances with 16.
