Week 12 - Round two of the playoffs

The second round of the 2013 high school football playoffs are complete. A few upsets and more than a few minor surprises. Here are a few interesting facts from this weekend's high school football action.

   *  Hoover just keeps rolling toward Tuscaloosa. The Bucs defeated Shades Valley 33-14 in the second round of the playoffs. They lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty-seven game unbeaten streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 44 game winning streak after a 35-20 victory over Wilcox Academy on Friday.

   *   Butler has concluded their season and will take the longest losing streak in the state into next season. They have a string of twenty-nine consecutive losses. They are followed closely by Red Level (26), Bullock County (25) and Woodville (25).

   *   Bullock County has lost 32 consecutive region games to lead the state with that unwanted honor.

   *  The Hoover Bucs will also enter the 2014 season riding a twenty-one game regular season winning streak. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 33 games in the AISA.

   *  Tanner will also bring a streak of 35 consecutive region wins into next season. In the AISA, Monroe Academy carries a streak of 34 straight region wins.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins with a streak of 33 games after 41-7 thumping of Geneva County on the road. Dadeville (33) ties Maplesville after a home win. Hoover (32) and Tanner (32) are close behind after this week's action. Dadeville and Maplesville will host third round games this week in hopes of continuing their streaks.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 341 games without being shutout following a 41-6 win over Midfield.

Other Notes:

Athens and Carver Montgomery became the only two fourth seeds to survive this weekend's action.

Florence, Central Clay County and Saraland won second round games for the first time in each schools football playing history.

T.R. Miller leads all teams with thirty-two first round wins. The Tigers are also closing in on Hazlewood's record of eighty-five playoff wins with eighty-four of their own.

Colbert County has won twenty-three second round playoff games. TR. Miller follows closely with twenty-one wins. The Indians also have more playoff appearances than any other team with thirty six.

Teams that have never won a third round playoff game include: Berry Fayette, Hubbertville, Bayside Academy, Bob Jones, Florence, Central Clay County, Southside Gadsden and Saraland.
