Week 11 - Round one of the playoffs

Round one of the 2013 high school football playoffs are complete. The first round saw upsets and more than a few minor surprises. Here are a few interesting facts from this weekend's high school football action.

   *  Hoover just keeps rolling toward Tuscaloosa. The Bucs defeated Huntsville 41-7 in the first round of the playoffs. They lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty-six game unbeaten streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 43 game winning streak after a 45-6 victory over South Choctaw Academy on Friday.

   *   Butler has concluded their season and will take the longest losing streak in the state into next season. They have a string of twenty-nine consecutive losses. They are followed closely by Red Level (26), Bullock County (25) and Woodville (25).

   *   Bullock County has lost 32 consecutive region games to lead the state with that unwanted honor.

   *  The Hoover Bucs will also enter the 2014 season riding a twenty-one game regular season winning streak. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 33 games in the AISA.

   *  Tanner will also bring a streak of 35 consecutive region wins into next season. In the AISA, Monroe Academy carries a streak of 34 straight region wins.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins with a streak of 33 games after 62-0 thumping of Marengo at home. Dadeville (32), Hoover (31) and Tanner (31) are close behind after this week's action. All four teams won playoff games at home this past weekend. Tanner, Dadeville and Hoover will host second round games this week in hopes of continuing their streaks.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 340 games without being shutout following a 54-28 win over American Christian.
