Week 1

The much anticipated 2013 season got underway over the weekend. Here are a few tidbits from the first week of high school football action.

   *  Brantley lost to Luverne 33-19 on Thursday night to end their 15 game winning streak. Hoover with a 15 game winning streak which leads the AHSAA school. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 34 game winning streak after defeating Hooper Academy last week and Evangel Christian this week.

   *   The Central Hayneville Lions have lost 52 consecutive games following their 40-28 loss to Florala on Friday night. Central has also lost 37 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  The Tanner Rattlers lost to Class 3A Madison Academy 48-6 on Thursday to end their streak of 35 regular season wins. Fyffe would have assumed the lead with a streak of 30 regular season victories in a row but they did not win on Friday. Piedmont takes over with the longest regular season winning streak with a string of 24 games. They are followed by Edgewood Academy (24) and Ragland (21) as the other teams with at least 20 consecutive regular season wins in a row.

   *  Tanner still maintains their streak of 28 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy also maintains a streak of 28 games.

   *  Maplesville assumes the lead for most consecutive home wins in a row with a streak of 27 games. Dadeville traveled to Reeltown for a 28-0 win and Tanner's loss was on the road so they both keep their home winning streak going at 26 consecutive games. Hoover joined them at 26 games with a home win.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 330 games without being shutout.

   *  The Enterprise Wildcats had won 16 consecutive season openers before falling to Smiths Station 34-28. The Davidson Warriors with a string of 15 also lost. The new leader is Childersburg with a streak of 13 consecutive season opening wins over the same opponent, B.B. Comer.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least 30 points in a game for an amazing 28 games in a row. That is an all-tine state record. The longest streak in the AHSAA is held by Sweet Water between 2007-08 with a streak of 22 games.

   *  James Clemens picked up the first win in school history with a 14-6 win over J.O. Johnson.

   *   According to our records, Tuscaloosa County won their 500th game on Friday night by defeating Mountain Brook 13-6.

* Chelsea set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating John Carroll 62-14.
* Good Hope set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Holly Pond 61-14.
* Fayetteville set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Spring Garden 53-7.
* Calera set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Holt 69-0.

* Holt set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Calera 0-69.

* James Clemens set a team record for margin of victory by defeating J.O. Johnson 14-6.
* Barbour County set a team record for margin of victory by defeating Bullock County 52-0.
* Calera set a team record for margin of victory by defeating Holt 69-0.

* North Jackson set a team record for margin of defeat in a game by losing to Fort Payne 0-46.
* Rogers set a team record for margin of defeat in a game by losing to Muscle Shoals 0-56.
* Holt set a team record for margin of defeat in a game by losing to Calera 0-69.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game
* Hooper Academy set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by losing to Edgewood Academy 27-57.
* Sumter Central set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by losing to Bessemer City 20-60.
















Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
