Best Five Year Winning Record

Which team has the best five year run in the playoff era? If you picked Hoover, you would be partially correct. Hoover has gone 71-4 from 2009-2013 to record the most wins in a five-year span in state football history. It tops the second most wins that were also put up by the Bucs between 2000-2004 and 2001-2005. Those teams finished 70-4.

While that is the record for the most wins in a five year span it is not the best run. That distinction belongs to the Prattville Lions with a record of 67-3 between 2004-08. The Lions winning percentage is 95.7% while Hoover's was 94.7%.

The Hoover Bucs' losses came at the hands of Vestavia Hills during the 2009 season, Daphne in the 2010 Super Six championship game, Mountain Brook during the 2011 regular season and Prattville in the 2011 title game. The Bucs won three state titles over the course of the last five seasons.

During their run, the Prattville Lions lost to Hoover in the 2004 title game, Opelika in the third round of the 2005 playoffs and to St. Xavier, OH in the first game of the 2008 season. The Lions also won three titles during their five year run. It should also be noted that the Lions went 46-1 during the regular season.

Here are some other great five-year runs since the playoffs began in 1966.

Andalusia (1973-1977)            61-3-2   95.3%
UMS-Wright (2001-2005)        68-4      94.5%
Clay County (1994-1998)        67-4      94.4%
Alexandria (1995-99)              60-4      93.8%
Homewood (2001-2005)         69-5      93.2%
Millport (1980-84)                    55-4      93.2%
