Coaching Changes

Class A
Region 1
Chambers Academy
- Jason Allen returns to Chambers where he served as the head coach from 1998-2001 and 2006-09 with a 47-43 record. Allen replaces Shenan Motley's whose team finished 1-10 in his only season as the head coach.

Region 2
Pickens Academy
- Josh Thacker, 29, lands his first head coaching job at Pickens. He has been an assistant at Leroy, Hillcrest Tuscaloosa and Sipsey Valley. He also worked at Mississippi State and West Alabama at the college level. Thacker replaces John Gartman who led the Pickens program the past three years to a 19-15 record. The Pirates reached the AISA-A finals last year before falling short of a championship.



Class AA
Region 1
East Memorial Christian
- Scott Phillips went 4-7 last year in his only season leading the Wildcats before being let go in early August.

Springwood - Thomas Hill was a member of the class of 2000 at Springwood. He graduated from Troy with a Master's degree. He has been an assistant coach at Springwood since the fall of 2006, coaching the receivers and secondary most recently. He was the assistant head coach the past two seasons. Hill replaces Ronnie Sikes who stepped down.  Sikes was 28-18 in four seasons and took a job coaching the defensive backs at Callaway high School in LaGrange, GA.

Region 2
Southern Academy - Jack Hazelrig served as the head football coach at Greensboro High School in 2008-09. He replaces Shaun Bonds who retires with a 95-36 record at Southern Academy. His teams won four consecutive titles between 2004-07. His overall record is 213-103 in 27 years a as head coach. He accepted an assistant coaching job at Morgan Academy.


Class AAA
Region 1
Glenwood Academy -
Tripp Henderson returns to Glenwood where he was the head football coach in 2008 and 2009 with a 9-12 record. He later served as the head coach at Russell County for two years (2010-11) with a 5-15 record. Henderson replaces Jason Allen who leaves to return to Chambers Academy. He led Glenwood to a 21-15 record the past three seasons.

Region 2

Pike Liberal Arts - Gene Allen moves over to the AISA after 17 seasons as a head coach in the public school system. He has an 89-96 overall record as a head football coach at Greenville (1991-99), Talladega (2000-04) and Lee Montgomery (2005-07). He did win a State Championship at Greenville in 1994 with a 13-1 team. Allen replaces Wayne Grant who went 1-9 in his only season at Pike Lib.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
