AHSAA Football Playoffs Open With 6 Defending Champs


           MONTGOMERY - All six defending state champions return to the Alabama High School Athletic Association state football playoffs opening Friday (Nov. 4) with all games scheduled for 7 p.m.
                The teams back to defend their 2010 titles include Class 1A Sweet Water (7-3), Class 2A Leroy (6-4), Class 3A Leeds (8-2), Class 4A Thomasville (9-1), Class 5A Spanish Fort (7-3) and Class 6A Daphne (9-1).
                A total of 20 schools head into the first round still unbeaten, including Bayside Academy (10-0) coached by Phil Lazenby. It marks the Admirals' first-ever undefeated regular season.     
           Other undefeated teams include Class 1A: Maplesville (10-0) and Ragland (10-0); Class 2A: Elba (10-0), Fyffe (10-0) and Tanner (10-0); Class 3A: Handley (10-0), Bayside Academy (10-0), Piedmont (10-0) and Hanceville (10-0); Class 4A: Jackson (10-0), Andalusia (10-0), Dadeville (10-0), Bibb County (10-0) and North Jackson (10-0); Class 5A: Saint Paul's (10-0), Greenville (10-0), Hueytown (10-0) and Hartselle (10-0); Class 6A: Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (10-0) and Mountain Brook (10-0).
                The second round playoff games are scheduled Friday, Nov. 11, followed by the quarterfinals Nov. 18, the semifinals Nov. 25 and the Super 6 state finals Dec. 1-2 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
