Brown played football for Coach Floyd Miller at Emma Sansom. He played guard and was offered a football scholarship to Jacksonville State Teachers College and Livingston during his senior season at Sansom.
He turned down the offers and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and served two years of duty in Germany. When he returned, Brown worked at the steel plant in Gadsden and began taking undergraduate classes at Jacksonville State.
Brown finished college in the spring of 1961 and was offered a job as an assistant football coach at Altoona High School by head coach Ben Perkins. Brown served as head coach of the Choctaws basketball and baseball teams during his two years at the school.
He accepted an assistant coaching position under E.C. Wilson at Glencoe High School before landing the head coaching job at Gaylesville High School in 1965.
Coach Brown moved to Collinsville in 1967 for three seasons before going to Cordova in 1970 for another six seasons. His Blue Devil teams went 45-15-1 during his tenure at the school. Browns 1972 team lost to Oneonta 43-14 in the state championship game.
In 1976 he landed at Vinemont High School for six seasons. Next up were stints at Falkville (1982-84) and Brewer (1985-87) before ending his coaching career at West End High School in Walnut Grove in 1989.
Brown is best known as a head football coach but he also found success as a basketball and baseball coach. Browns teams won many county championships in the two sports over his 29 year career.
His overall record is 126-126-4 in 25 seasons as a head football coach in Alabama.
