Summary:

Escambia County survived a close battle with Sheffield to claim the 1974 Class 3A state crown with a hard fought 7-6 win. The Blue Devils would get on the score board first in the opening quarter on a Tony Trawick touchdown. Al Wright would kick the all important extra point which would be the margin of victory.
Sheffield would score on a 27 yard pass from John Welborn to Ron Darby in the third period. The Bulldogs would go for two and the victory but a quarterback keeper would come up short giving Escambia County their first state championship in their first playoff appearance.
Sheffield had lost in the first round last year in their only other playoff experience.
