Alonzo Pickett graduated from Carver High School in Montgomery and played fullback at Alabama State.
Picketts first coaching job came at the age of 24 when he was offered a job at Druid High School in Tuscaloosa in the fall of 1970. He accepted an assistant coaching position, working with the running backs and secondary, with the Dragons coached by Lou Mims.
In 1984 Coach Pickett accepts the head coaching job at his alma mater. He spent the next 15 seasons as the head football coach at Carver High School where his teams posted a 68-95 record. Picketts Wolverines reached the playoffs in all but two seasons he was the head coach and compiled a 4-13 playoff record.
Coach Pickett retired from the sidelines after the 1995 season at Carver.
