 2023 Preview 


       Vina finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Vina finished eighth in Class 1A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 461 points last season. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 1987 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Vina averaged scoring just 9.6 points a game. The Red Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 51.2 points a game.

       The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-19 record. Since 2010, the Vina football program has struggled with a record of 19-112.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Vina has not won much with a record of 45-202. Their 18.0% winning percentage ranks 61st in Class 1A and 389th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time. Their last winning season was 2004.




       The Red Devils are led by head coach Luke Childers who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-30 over the past four seasons at Vina. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Childers.

       The Red Devils enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 22 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Red Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Vina will be to simply win some games. Vina simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 67 students, the Red Devils are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful.

       The Red Devils open the 2023 season at home against region opponent Addison on Friday, September 1 at Franklin-Hester Stadium. Last year the Addison Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 1A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 41-14.

       Vina and Addison have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 3-17-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Addison winning by a score of 69-0.
