 2023 Preview

Theodore completed the 2022 season with a 13-1 record. The Bobcats cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Theodore captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 8-0 record. Theodore made a nice playoff run in 2022, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Saraland team by the score of 21-6.

No team at Theodore ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year.

The defense was very stingy last season as Theodore ranked 12th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.4 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Bobcats have Finished 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Theodore has gone a combined 82-59. Their 58.2% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Theodore has managed to compile a record of 162-113. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A and 101st in the AHSAA.

The Bobcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Steve Mask as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Mask returns to Mobile where he found success at St. Pauls over ten seasons. His 211 wins rank 16th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Mask's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times and won seven region championships. He has a 42-16 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Mask won four state championships prior to arriving at Theodore, the last coming in 2020 at St. Pauls.

Eric Collier retired but the Bobcats will be in good hands with Steve Mask taking over the leadership for the football program in Theodore. The Bobcats have only had six head coaches prior to this season since 1952.

The Bobcats enter the 2023 season riding a 13 game regular season winning streak. Theodore has won 10 consecutive region games.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Theodore has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Bobcats are considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Bobcats are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Bobcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2016 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

QB Cameron Rigby will be returning after completing 96 of 186 passes for 1,196 yards last season along with 16 touchdowns.

Navontay Richardson will lead the defense this season after collecting 103 total tackles last season.

Cameron Pruitt will also return at safety along with DL Kevin Norwood to anchor a very good defense again.

The Bobcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Baker on Friday, August 25 at Hornet Field. Last year the Baker Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Enterprise by a score of 35-26.

Theodore and Baker have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 48-9-1 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2022 with Theodore winning by a score of 32-3.

Theodore lost 6A All-State  running back Brayden Jenkins to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates offensive lineman Marquez Timmes and athlete Trey Glover.
