 2023 Preview

Tanner completed the 2022 season with a 4-5 record. Last year Tanner finished sixth in Class 2A region eight with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Tanner had a very good offense last year, scoring 37.9 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 36.0 points per game.

Since 2010, Tanner has gone a combined 105-51. Their 67.3% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tanner has managed to compile a record of 192-101. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 2A and 60th in the AHSAA.

The Rattlers are led by head coach Oscar Bonds who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-32 over the past five seasons at Tanner. Under his direction the Rattlers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bonds.

The Rattlers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

QB KJ Parham will be returning after completing 48 of 92 passes for 984 yards last season along with 15 touchdowns.

The Rattlers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Lauderdale County on Thursday, August 24 at Robert Earl Grisham Stadium. Last year the Lauderdale County Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class 3A region eight. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 44-14.

Tanner and Lauderdale County have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Rattlers have a 6-20-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Lauderdale County winning by a score of 54-30.
