 2023 Preview

Sparkman completed the 2022 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Sparkman finished sixth in Class 7A region four with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The 383 points scored by the Senators last year were a team record in a single season.

Since 2010, Sparkman has gone a combined 51-83. Their 38.1% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 7A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Sparkman has managed to compile a record of 101-158. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 7A and 302nd in the AHSAA.

The Senators will be under the direction of new head football coach Ronnie Watson as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Watson was the defensive coordinator at Sparkman the last five seasons.

The Senators will be led by a new coach after Laron White stepped down during the off season.

The Senators will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season.

QB Josh Ward returns after completing 151 of 239 passes for 2,069 yards last season along with 26 touchdowns.

The Senators open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Hazel Green on Friday, August 25 at Sparkman Field. Last year the Hazel Green Trojans finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 6A region eight. The Trojans lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Muscle Shoals by a score of 58-7.
