 2023 Preview

Scottsboro completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Scottsboro reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Leeds by a score of 35-10.

It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Scottsboro has gone a combined 63-77. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Scottsboro has managed to compile a record of 121-148. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A and 236th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Cris Bell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-12 over the past two seasons at Scottsboro. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. Over the course of his career, Coach Bell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in the state this season. Their non-region opponents finished 30-15 last year. Coach Bell thinks the program is in a good spot following last season success. He thinks they are ahead of where they were last year at this time. He will be counting on the sophomore class to contribute in 2023. The Wildcats have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 74-39 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 5A and 2nd in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region seven this season.

The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Fort Payne on Friday, August 25 at Wildcat Stadium. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 6A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Decatur by a score of 31-8.

Scottsboro and Fort Payne have met a total of 88 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 32-53-3 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Fort Payne winning by a score of 20-6.
