 2023 Preview

Ramsay completed the 2022 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Ramsay captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Rams reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 5A State Championship by defeating Charles Henderson at the Alabama Super Seven 41-20 in Auburn.

No team at Ramsay ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The 597 points scored by the Rams last year were a team record in a single season. The Rams hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Jackson saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 6-5 record in 2021.

Ramsay is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only eleven seasons. They have managed a record of 93-43 over the past eleven years.

Over the past 11 seasons, Ramsay has finished a combined 93-43. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A and 48th in the AHSAA.

The Rams will be under the direction of new head football coach Ronnie Jackson as they enter the 2023 season.   Coach Jackson led to a state championship in 2022.

The Ramsay Rams will return nine starters on defense and that alone will be enough to make them a contender for a second straight state championship. A very difficult non-region schedule with games against Hueytown, Parker and Auburn will serve to get the Rams prepared for another deep playoff run in 2023.

The Rams enter the 2023 season riding a 9 game winning streak. Ramsay has won 9 consecutive region games. They have won 8 straight games on their home turf at Lawson Field.

The Rams enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region five and could very well be representing the North in the Class 5A title game. The Rams have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2013 and this year should be no exception.

Junior QB Kameron Keenan will be returning after completing 115 of 201 passes for 1,828 yards last season along with 17 touchdowns.

Ashton Ashford will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,881 yards and 26 TDs in 2022.

Receiver Kristian Stinson will return after grabbing 37 passes good for 625 yards and 6 TDs as a junior last season.

The Rams open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Hueytown on Friday, August 25 at Hueytown High School Stadium. Last year the Hueytown Golden Gophers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 6A region four. The Golden Gophers lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Theodore by a score of 29-18.

Ramsay and Hueytown have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Rams have a 6-3-0 record against the Golden Gophers. They last met in 2022 with Ramsay winning by a score of 41-28.

Ramsay lost 5A All-State  offensive lineman Anthony Miles to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates receiver Jalen Jones and defensive lineman Caleb Patterson.

The Rams return 5A All-State Senior running back Ashton Ashford. He was named to the first team last season. The Rams also return Senior linebacker QB Reese. He was named to the first team.
