 2023 Preview 


       Oxford completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region six, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Oxford's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gardendale by a score of 31-14.

       Oxford took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2015. The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 2015.

       Since 2010, Oxford has gone a combined 112-46. Their 70.9% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oxford has managed to compile a record of 190-98. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 6A and 63rd in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Sam Adams who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-11 over the past two seasons at Oxford. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Adams. Over the course of his career, Coach Adams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won three region championships.

       The Yellow Jackets were a very young team last season playing a lot of underclassmen. Will that pay dividends in 2023? The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-45 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 6A and 32nd in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2015 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2023.

      The Bulldogs return eight players to the offense and seven to the defense. They will be led by junior QB Mason Mims and senior RB Jaydon Thomas.

      WR Nick Richardson was the leading receiver in 2022 and will also be back this fall.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent McAdory on Friday, August 25 at McAdory Stadium. Last year the McAdory Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region four. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Homewood by a score of 35-30.

       Oxford and McAdory have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-4-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2022 with McAdory winning by a score of 35-21.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
