 2023 Preview

Midfield finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-6 record. Last year Midfield just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region five with a 2-4 region record.

The Patriots hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 9-3 record in 2021.

Midfield was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Patriots want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.9 points a game.

Midfield struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.1 points a game.

Since 2010, Midfield has gone a combined 67-67. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Midfield has managed to compile a record of 156-118. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A and 113rd in the AHSAA.

The Patriots are led by head coach Rod Isaac who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 65-59 over the past twelve seasons at Midfield. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Isaac.

The Patriots will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Midfield will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Patriots open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Wenonah on Friday, September 1 at Bell-Culpepper Stadium. Last year the Wenonah Dragons finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in eighth place in Class 5A region five.

Midfield and Wenonah have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 4-14-0 record against the Dragons. They last met in 2022 with Wenonah winning by a score of 43-6.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
