 2023 Preview

Lincoln completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Lincoln just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region six with a 2-4 region record.

Since 2010, Lincoln has gone a combined 62-81. Their 43.4% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lincoln has managed to compile a record of 144-138. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A and 175th in the AHSAA.

The Golden Bears are led by head coach Matt Zedaker who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-35 over the past six seasons at Lincoln. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Zedaker.

The Golden Bears could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Lincoln came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Golden Bears open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Talladega on Friday, August 25 at Mary Dumas Stadium. Last year the Talladega Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Saks by a score of 62-24.

Lincoln and Talladega have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 8-11-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Lincoln winning by a score of 54-0.
