 2023 Preview 


       Geraldine completed the 2022 season with a 9-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Geraldine lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Sylvania team by a score of 27-7.

       Since 2010, Geraldine has gone a combined 89-60. Their 59.7% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Geraldine has managed to compile a record of 164-114. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A and 96th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Michael Davis who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-8 over the past two seasons at Geraldine. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

       The Bulldogs return three year starter Jaxon Colvin at quarterback and could make a lot of noise in 3A under Coach Davis in his third season at the helm. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-48 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 3A and 19th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2006 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2023.

      QB Jaxon Colvin passed for 1,044 yards and 13 TDs while adding 488 yards rushing and another 6 touchdowns last year.

      River Walling returns to the defense after collecting 84 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries in 2022.

       The Bulldogs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Coosa Christian on Thursday, August 24 at Coolidge-Isbell Field. Last year the Coosa Christian Conquerors finished with an overall record of 9-5 and in second place in Class 1A region seven. The Conquerors lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 44-40.

       Geraldine and Coosa Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 2-0-0 record against the Conquerors. They last met in 2022 with Geraldine winning by a score of 36-7.

      

       The Bulldogs return 3A All-State Senior running back Carlos Mann. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior offensive lineman Jayse Cook. He was named to the second team.
