 2023 Preview 


       Fultondale finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Fultondale finished seventh in Class 4A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 1973. The defense allowed a team record 469 points last season.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Fultondale averaged scoring just 7.5 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 46.9 points a game.

       The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-18 record. Since 2010, Fultondale has gone a combined 83-61. Their 57.6% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Fultondale has managed to compile a record of 131-138. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 4A and 201st in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Keon Handley as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Handley is a Miles College graduate, who has a masters from Jacksonville State, coached at his alma mater, Fairfield, from 2017-21. Over the course of his career, Coach Handley's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Wildcats enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 16 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Fultondale will be to simply win some games.

       The Wildcats open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Holtville on Friday, August 25 at Wildcats Field. Last year the Holtville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Central Clay County by a score of 50-0.

       Fultondale and Holtville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 0-2-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Holtville winning by a score of 58-8.
