 2023 Preview

Elba completed the 2022 season with a 11-1 record. The Tigers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Elba captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 8-0 record. Elba reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Sweet Water by a score of 27-20.

The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2015.

The high-scoring Elba offense ranked 27th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.9 points a game.

The Tigers defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 35th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 14.7 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Tigers have Finished 21-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Elba has gone a combined 128-33. Their 79.5% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elba has managed to compile a record of 189-101. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 1A and 66th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2006.

The Tigers are led by head coach Marc Sieving who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-7 over the past three seasons at Elba. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Sieving.

With a weak non-region schedule look for the Tigers to mark the game with Brantley as the key matchup in 2023. The winner of that game will likely win the region crown this fall.

The Tigers enter the 2023 season riding a 17 game regular season winning streak.

The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Junior Alvin Henderson will be back this season at running back after rushing for 2,636 yards and 47 TDs in 2022.

The defense will be led by Jacob Watkins and Cayden Adkins this season after collecting 194 combined tackles last season.

The Tigers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent New Brockton on Friday, August 25 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the New Brockton Gamecocks finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 3A region two. The Gamecocks closed out the regular season with a loss to Northside Methodist Academy by a score of 48-18.
