 2023 Preview 


       Daphne completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Daphne just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region one with a 3-3 region record.

       Daphne took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2018.

       Daphne was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Trojans want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game.

       Since 2010, Daphne has gone a combined 100-48. Their 67.6% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Daphne has finished a combined 223-82. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A and 27th in the AHSAA. The Trojans have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.




       The Trojans are led by head coach Kenny King who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 46-30 over the past seven seasons at Daphne. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach King.

       The Trojans only won four games in 2022 the fewest for the program since 1996. Look for them to bounce back this season.

       The Trojans could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Daphne came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Trojans open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Murphy on Thursday, August 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 6A region one. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Blount by a score of 28-22.

       Daphne and Murphy have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 7-6-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Daphne winning by a score of 34-15.

      

       The Trojans return 7A All-State Senior defensive lineman Tyler Durant. He was named to the second team last season. The Trojans also return Senior running back Nick Clark. He was named to the honorable mention team.
