 2022 Preview 


       Gaylesville completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Gaylesville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wadley by a score of 48-14.

       The Trojans improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2013. The Trojans won as many games as in any season since 2013. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Trojans qualified for the playoffs. The Trojans last playoff victory came during the 1975 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Gaylesville has gone a combined 40-81. Their 33.1% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Gaylesville has not won much with a record of 81-173. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 1A and 338th in the AHSAA.




       The Trojans are led by head coach Brian Knapp who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-18 over the past three seasons at Gaylesville. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Knapp.

       Coach Knapp's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 43-83 (34.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Knapp's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Gaylesville Trojans will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2022 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Trojans could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Unfortunately, Gaylesville finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

       The Trojans open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent West End Walnut Grove on Friday, August 19 at Trojan Field. Last year the West End Walnut Grove Patriots finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six.

       Gaylesville and West End Walnut Grove have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 0-5-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 1979 with West End Walnut Grove winning by a score of 34-0.

       Gaylesville returns 1A All-State Senior offensive lineman Briley Mitchell. He was named to the first team last season. The Trojans also return Senior athlete Keylon Higgins. He was named to the first team.
