 2022 Preview

Central completed the 2021 season with a 5-4 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region three, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Central's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Kinston by a score of 10-6.

The Lions have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022.

The defense was very stingy last season as Central Hayneville ranked 15th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.6 points a game.

Central was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Lions want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.6 points a game.

Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 25-91.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has not won much with a record of 54-191. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 1A and 383rd in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Corvin Johnson as they enter the 2022 season.

The Central Lions will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 1A but move from region three over to region four.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season.

The Lions open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Beauregard on Friday, August 26 at Hornet Stadium. Last year the Beauregard Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region four. The Hornets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holt by a score of 35-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Central and Beauregard have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-4-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2001 with Beauregard winning by a score of 40-14.
