 2018 Preview

Monroe Academy completed the 2017 season with a 13-0 record. Last year Monroe Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class AAA playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. The Monroe Academy Volunteers claimed the AISA-AAA State Championship by defeating Bessemer Academy 34-14 in Troy.

No team at Monroe Academy ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year.

Over the past two seasons the Volunteers have gone 24-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Monroe Academy has gone a combined 94-10. Their 90.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AAA over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Monroe Academy has gone a combined 195-86. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA and 3rd in the AISA. Their last losing season was 2006.

The Volunteers are led by head coach Mitchell Tuberville who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 123-26 over the past twelve seasons at Monroe Academy. Under his direction the Volunteers have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. They have won nine region crowns with Coach Tuberville. Coach Tuberville has won three state championships at Monroe Academy, the last coming in 2017.

Coach Tuberville's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 123-26 (82.6%). His 123 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AISA.

The Monroe Academy Volunteers will play in Class AAA region two during the 2018 season.

The Volunteers enter the 2018 season riding a 13 game winning streak. They have also won 19 consecutive regular season games. Monroe Academy has won 23 consecutive region games. They have won 34 straight games on their home turf at Volunteer Stadium.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Monroe Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Volunteers enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November. The Volunteers have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2007 and this year should be no exception.

The Volunteers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent South Choctaw Academy on Friday, August 24 at Jackson Memorial Stadium. Last year the South Choctaw Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class A region two.
