2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kingwood Christian finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-10 record. With their 1-4 region record and a sixth place finish in Class AA region one, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Kingwood Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Autauga Academy by a score of 49-6. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2003. The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-19 record. Since 2010, Kingwood Christian has gone a combined 32-55. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AAA over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Kingwood Christian has managed to compile a record of 95-155. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AAA and 31st in the AISA. The Lions are led by head coach Todd Bradford who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-10 record in his first season at Kingwood Christian. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford. Coach Bradford's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 2-19 (9.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Kingwood Christian Lions will play in Class AAA region one during the 2018 season. The Lions move up in classification to Class AAA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Kingwood Christian will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Lions enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Lions open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Evangel Christian Alabaster on Friday, August 24 at Ron Cox Field. Last year the Evangel Christian Alabaster Lightning finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in place in Class 8 Man region one. The Lightning won the Class 8 Man State Championship last season when they defeated Ezekiel Academy by a score of 55-14 in Troy. Kingwood Christian and Evangel Christian Alabaster have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Lions have a 1-1-0 record against the Lightning. They last met in 2016 with Evangel Christian Alabaster winning by a score of 20-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
