 2017 Preview 


       Pike Liberal Arts completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-2 region record and a second place finish in Class AAA region two, the Patriots earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Pike Liberal Arts's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 42-0.

       The Patriots had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, Pike Liberal Arts has gone a combined 36-39. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AAA over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pike Liberal Arts has managed to compile a record of 144-132. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AAA and 19th in the AISA.

       The Patriots are led by head coach Gene Allen who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-23 over the past four seasons at Pike Liberal Arts. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Allen.

       Coach Allen's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-one season stands at 109-119 (47.8%). His 109 wins rank th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Allen's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won four region championships. Coach Allen won a state championship at in 1994.

       The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots will play in Class AAA region two during the 2017 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Patriots could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Unfortunately, Pike Liberal Arts finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

      Reed Jinright returns for his Senior season after completing 49 of 105 passes for 721 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also rushed for 607 yards and another 8 scores.

      Senior Reed Johnson also returns after rushing for 348 yards on 75 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns.

       The Patriots open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Clarke Prep on Friday, August 25 at Dewight Ward Field. Last year the Clarke Prep Gators finished with an overall record of 4-8 and in fourth place in Class AA region two. The Gators lost in the semi-finals round of the Class AA playoffs to Escambia Academy by a score of 54-24.

       Pike Liberal Arts and Clarke Prep have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 3-1-0 record against the Gators. They last met in 2016 with Pike Liberal Arts winning by a score of 19-6.
