2017 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Edgewood Academy finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-11 record. Edgewood Academy took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2007. The defense allowed a team record 431 points last season. The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 13-0 record in 2015. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Edgewood Academy has gone a combined 79-13. Their 86.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Edgewood Academy has managed to compile a record of 179-119. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AAA and 10th in the AISA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Eric Folmar who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-11 record in his first season at Edgewood Academy. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Folmar. The Edgewood Academy Wildcats will play in Class AAA region one during the 2017 season. The Wildcats enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Edgewood Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Edgewood Academy will be to simply win some games. The Wildcats open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Hope Christian on Friday, August 25 at Columbiana Sports Park. Last year the Hope Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 3-5 and in place in Class 8 Man region one. Edgewood Academy and Hope Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Hope Christian winning by a score of 44-36. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
