 2017 Preview 


       Crenshaw Christian completed the 2016 season with a 4-7 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class A region one, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Crenshaw Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Marengo Academy by a score of 53-7.

       Since 2010, Crenshaw Christian has gone a combined 45-34. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Crenshaw Christian has managed to compile a record of 174-106. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A and 8th in the AISA.

       The Cougars are led by head coach Mike Sims who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Crenshaw Christian. The Cougars saw improvement from a 3-8 record the season before coach Sims arrived. Under his direction the Cougars have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sims.

       Coach Sims' overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 70-45 (60.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sims' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship.

       The Crenshaw Christian Cougars will play in Class A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Cougars will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

       The Cougars open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 18 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class AA region two. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Lakeside by a score of 42-35.

       Crenshaw Christian and Jackson Academy have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 7-10-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Jackson Academy winning by a score of 46-13.
