 2017 Preview 

       Autauga Academy completed the 2016 season with a 13-0 record. Last year Autauga Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class AA playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. The Autauga Academy Generals claimed the AISA-AA State Championship by defeating Escambia Academy 28-21 in Troy.

       No team at Autauga Academy ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 1999. The Generals hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Carr saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 7-5 record in 2015.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 65-21. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AA over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 198-94. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AA and 5th in the AISA. The Generals have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2009.

Kyle Glover stepped down as the head football coach at Autauga Academy after one year and a perfect 13-0 record including a state championship.

After serving as offensive coordinator at the school for one year, Bobby Carr will assume the head coaching duties this season. He built Edgewood Academy into one of the best football and baseball programs in AISA history.

His teams there won numerous state titles including the last five football championships. Carrs overall football coaching record stands at an amazing 162.25 in 15 seasons at Edgewood.

       Coach Carr's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 168-29 (85.3%). His 168 wins rank th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Carr's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won twelve region championships. Coach Carr won seven state championships prior to arriving at Autauga Academy, the last coming in 2015 at .

       The Autauga Academy Generals will play in Class AA region two during the 2017 season.

       The Generals enter the 2017 season riding a 13 game winning streak. They have also won 12 consecutive regular season games. They have won 11 straight games on their home turf at Generals Field.

       The Generals enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November. The Generals have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2002 and this year should be no exception.

      Tripp Carr returns for his Junior season after completing 128 of 195 passes for 2,287 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also rushed for 581 yards and another 7 scores.

      Junior Javon Brown returns after rushing for 544 yards on 55 carries and scoring 6 TDs. Sophomore Kendrick Rogers also returns after catching 50 passes for 840 yards and 8 touchdowns.

      The defense returns Junior cornerback Turner Payton who registered 3 interceptions last year.

       The Generals open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday, August 25 at Generals Field. Last year the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in fourth place in Class AAA region one. The Knights lost in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs to Monroe Academy by a score of 46-14.

       Autauga Academy and Tuscaloosa Academy have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Generals have a 3-0-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2016 with Autauga Academy winning by a score of 54-32.

       Autauga Academy returns AISA All-State Senior linebacker Djay Gardner. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Generals also return sophomore athlete Kendrick Rogers. He was named to the first team. The Generals also return Junior quarterback Tripp Carr. He was named to the second team.
