Abbeville Christian completed the 2016 season with a 7-6 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class A region one, the Generals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Last year Abbeville Christian reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Marengo Academy team by the score of 42-17. The Generals hope to get back closer to the 12-1 record in 2015. Since 2010, Abbeville Christian has gone a combined 50-34. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Abbeville Christian has managed to compile a record of 115-152. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class A and 28th in the AISA. The Generals are led by head coach Ashley Carlisle who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 57-38 over the past eight seasons at Abbeville Christian. Under his direction the Generals have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Carlisle. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. Sophomore running back Dre Newman returns after rushing for 810 years, throwing for 220 yards. He also collected 222 yards receiving. Robert Miller returns for his Senior season after rushing for 405 yards. He also collected 5 sacks for 33 yards in losses. Senior Evan Grimsley returns on defense after getting in on 6 sacks for losses of 35 yards last season. The Generals open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Escambia Academy on Friday, August 18 at Generals Stadium. Last year the Escambia Academy Cougars finished with an overall record of 8-5 and in second place in Class AA region two. The Cougars lost in the Class AA State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Autauga Academy. They final score was 28-21 in Troy. Abbeville Christian and Escambia Academy have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Generals have a 3-4-0 record against the Cougars.
