2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carver completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Carver finished sixth in Class 5A region five with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2003. The Rams won as many games as in any season since 2003. The Rams have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Rams last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Carver was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.4 points a game. Since 2010, the Carver football program has struggled with a record of 14-46. Over the past 23 seasons, Carver has not won much with a record of 49-179. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 6A and 371st in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. The Rams are led by head coach Rod Carson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-12 over the past two seasons at Carver. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carson. Coach Carson's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 8-12 (40.0%). The Carver Rams will play in Class 6A region six during the 2016 season. The Rams move up in classification to Class 6A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Region six will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Rams if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. The Rams open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Sumter Central on Friday, August 19 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Sumter Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 5A region four. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to American Christian by a score of 49-14. Carver and Sumter Central have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Rams have a 2-0-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in with Carver returns 5A All-State Junior defensive back Dedrick Powell. He was named to the second team last season. The Rams also return Senior defensive lineman Tadarrius Patterson. He was named to the honorable mention team. College prospects include: Darrell Cook (6-3, 267) offensive tackle, Tadarrius Patterson (6-1, 221) outside linebacker, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
