 2016 Preview 


       Morgan Academy completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record.

       The Senators have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year.

       Since 2010, Morgan Academy has gone a combined 26-37. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class AAA over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Morgan Academy has gone a combined 204-88. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AAA and 1st in the AISA.

Jake Wingo leaves Morgan Academy after two seasons as the head football coach. His teams went 5-15 over those couple of years.


Josh Thacker becomes the new head football coach at Morgan Academy. He spent the last three seasons at Pickens Academy as the head coach where his teams compiled a 18-16 overall record including 1-3 in the playoffs.



       Coach Thacker's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 18-16 (52.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Thacker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Morgan Academy Senators will play in Class AAA region two during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Senators remain in AAA but move from region one over to region two.

       The Senators will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. Morgan Academy has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Senators open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Marengo Academy on Saturday, August 27 at Linden Athletic Field. Last year the Marengo Academy Longhorns finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class AA region one. The Longhorns lost in the Class AA State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Edgewood Academy. They final score was 40-34 in Troy.

       Morgan Academy and Marengo Academy have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Senators have a 17-13-0 record against the Longhorns. They last met in 2009 with Morgan Academy winning by a score of 27-7.
