 2016 Preview 


       Marengo Academy completed the 2015 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Marengo Academy captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class AA playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. Last year the Marengo Academy Longhorns reached the AISA-AA State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Edgewood Academy in the State Championship game 40-34 in Troy.

       Since 2010, Marengo Academy has gone a combined 44-25. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Marengo Academy has managed to compile a record of 152-128. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class A and 17th in the AISA.

       Coach Tutt's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 47-32 (59.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tutt's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times .

       The Marengo Academy Longhorns will play in Class A region two during the 2016 season. The Longhorns may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AA to A. They will compete in region two this year.

       The Longhorns enter the 2016 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. Marengo Academy has won 15 consecutive region games.

       The Longhorns should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Longhorns open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Morgan Academy on Friday, August 26 at Linden Athletic Field. Last year the Morgan Academy Senators finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class AAA region one. The Senators closed out the regular season with a loss to Clarke Prep by a score of 34-28.

       Marengo Academy and Morgan Academy have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Longhorns have a 13-17-0 record against the Senators. They last met in 2009 with Morgan Academy winning by a score of 27-7.
