2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Huffman completed the 2015 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region six, the Vikings earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Huffman's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Muscle Shoals by a score of 36-0. It marked the first time since the 2005 season that the Vikings qualified for the playoffs. The Vikings last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Huffman averaged scoring just 11.3 points a game. Since 2010, Huffman has gone a combined 19-42. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 7A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Huffman has managed to compile a record of 133-134. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 7A and 181st in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2007. The Vikings are led by head coach Alex Wilson who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-27 over the past four seasons at Huffman. Under his direction the Vikings have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wilson. Coach Wilson's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 29-44 (39.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Huffman Vikings will play in Class 7A region three during the 2016 season. The Vikings move up in classification to Class 7A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Vikings have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-47 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 7A and 40th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Vikings if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Vikings open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Parker on Thursday, August 25 at Parker Football Complex. Last year the Parker Thundering Herd finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 5A region five. The Thundering Herd lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Russellville by a score of 41-21. Huffman and Parker have met a total of 30 times on the football field.
