 2016 Preview 


       Clarke Prep completed the 2015 season with a 8-4 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region one, the Gators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Last year Clarke Prep reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Edgewood Academy team by the score of 49-12.

       Since 2010, Clarke Prep has gone a combined 50-23. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AA over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke Prep has managed to compile a record of 175-107. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AA and 10th in the AISA. Their last losing season was 2009.

       The Gators are led by head coach Billy Hamilton who is entering his thirty-second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 222-128 over the past thirty-one seasons at Clarke Prep. Under his direction the Gators have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-five times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Hamilton. Coach Hamilton has won five state championships at Clarke Prep, the last coming in 2005.

       Coach Hamilton's overall record as a head football coach in thirty-one season stands at 222-128 (63.4%). His 222 wins rank 2nd among active coaches in the AISA.

       The Clarke Prep Gators will play in Class AA region two during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Gators remain in AA but move from region one over to region two.

       The Gators should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Gators have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Gators open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Pike Liberal Arts on Friday, August 26 at Billy Hamilton Field. Last year the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class AAA region one. The Patriots closed out the regular season with a loss to Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 39-6.

       Clarke Prep and Pike Liberal Arts have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Gators have a 1-3-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2007 with Clarke Prep winning by a score of 52-20.
