 2016 Preview

Chickasaw completed the 2015 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region one, the Chieftains earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Chickasaw's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Notasulga by a score of 22-7.

No team at Chickasaw ever won more games in a season than the four victories last year. No team at Chickasaw ever lost more games in a season than the seven they lost last year. The Chieftains have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016.

Chickasaw was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Chieftains want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.9 points a game.

Chickasaw is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only two seasons. They have managed a record of 8-14 over the past two years.

The Chieftains are led by head coach John Beverly who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Chickasaw. Under his direction the Chieftains have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Beverly.

Coach Beverly's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 26-19 (57.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Beverly's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

The Chickasaw Chieftains will play in Class 2A region one during the 2016 season. The Chieftains move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

It will be an uphill battle for the Chieftains if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season.

Quarterback AJ Phillips returns for his sophomore season after rushing for 812 yards and 8 touchdowns last year.

Running back Tony Overstreet returns for his junior season after rushing for 683 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2015.

The Chieftains open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent B.C. Rain on Friday, August 19 at Trimmier Park. Last year the B.C. Rain Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region one.

This will be the second meeting between Chickasaw and B.C. Rain on the football field. The Chieftains have a 0-1-0 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in with

Chickasaw returns 1A All-State Junior linebacker Dorian Jones. He was named to the second team last season.
