School enrollment numbers are out and everyone is getting their refresher courses in Excel today.

One thing to remember (and I have said this about many topics over the last 12 months) is we have no idea what the AHSAA will do.
A new executive director, new staff handling reclassification, controversy over private schools. This is an entirely new team handling reclassification this time, something none of them have ever been heavily involved in. I would not be surprised to see some corrections even after the supposed vote on the 15th/16th.

These are also subject to change based on how different private school enrollments are reported. They report their own so we don't have a concrete number for many of those schools.

After a first look through the numbers here is where things stand:

7A:
Hazel Green, Spain Park, Gadsden City and Buckhorn moving up to 7A.

6A:
Florence, Austin, Albertville and Hillcrest look to be moving down from 7A to 6A.
Faith Academy, Springville, and Russellville look like they will move up to 6A from 5A.

5A:
Moving down to 5A from 6A looks like Jackson-Olin, Shades Valley and Woodlawn.
Moving up to 5A from 4A is Good Hope, Brooks, Satsuma, and St. Michael.

4A:
Down to 4A looks to be Jacksonville, Andalusia, Montevallo and Corner.
Up to 4A from 3A looks like a host of Lauderdale County, Elkmont, Flomaton, Madison Academy, St. James, Geraldine and Childersburg.

3A-1A
There was a lot of moving and shaking in these but the biggest standouts look to be:
Handley, Jackson, Geneva, Hatton, Fayette County, Reeltown and Lanett headed to 3A.

2A & 1A did not seem to have any major moves that I can tell from first glance.

Wow. On the whole it looks like 6A is getting even deeper. Mont Catholic already coming up and its possible St Paul's enrollment is high enough that they stay in 6A. Im interested to see what changes if any are made on the North/South line in regions 4 & 5

God I hope this doesn't pan out. I hate Brooks moving to 5A and it's not even the level of competition that bothers me, it's the fact that we have no teams really in our area that are 5A other than Russellville and even Russellville is a good 35 to 40 minute drive if not more.

Jackson to 3A seems wild. I know that Clarke County/that area is shrinking in population, but still. If true I'mInDanger.gif I guess.

Keep in mind that there were more than 5000 students "missing" from enrollment this year. Very obvious that a lot of schools manipulated their enrollment numbers to either stay in a classification or drop down. The state of the AHSAA is a dumpster fire and there isn't any indication that it will improve.

The AHSAA have nothing to do with the numbers. Schools report directly to the state and those numbers are used. Schools and the state do not want to report lower numbers as that affects federal funding which is more important to them than football. Well at most of them. But the AHSAA and the schools would not likely cook the numbers just to win a football game or two. Too much at stake.

I was expecting West Morgan to move up to 5A next year, since they were on the cusp of moving up next year, and they've built a new high school a few years ago. Buddy of mine says that Danville is probably moving down to 3A with Hatton, and WM will probably move regions if MHB, Lauderdale Co and Elkmont move up.

Yeah, the spreadsheet I saw today had West Morgan moving to the east region. Pretty good haul from WM all the way over to North Jackson...

They were in that region when they first moved up to 4A back in 2018 and 2019. That first year they had to go to North Jackson and get 69 points hung on them...

If this didn't have teeth, then the state would not be conducting an audit of all schools in the state. That notification went out yesterday.

Mars Hill, West Morgan, Deshler, Lauderdale County- that would be fun.

West Morgan, Madison Academy, Plainview - may also be fun?

If that happens, Russellville--a team I think could do some things in 5A the next couple of years--is going to absolutely die. Florence, Austin, Athens, Muscle Shoals, Hartselle, Cullman, Decatur, Russellville in a region--I just wept
