There is some travel that is rough, but at least multiple teams from each region are dealing with the same thing. For example, Private Single A Region 1 & 4.
Region 1 - Dothan to Mobile: ~185mi. (3hrs)
Region 4 - Florence to Gadsden: ~120mi. (2.5hrs)

But for Private Single A, Donoho got shafted.
N.Montgomery: ~120mi. (2.5hrs)
Selma: ~140mi. (3hrs)
Carrollton: ~150mi. (2.5hrs)
Tuscaloosa: ~120mi. (2hrs)

And for Double A Travel, it's atrocious. Two teams are going to have serious difficulties with logistics (e.g. gas money, drivers, time away, meals, etc.).

Lee Scott Academy got royally screwed. You thought Donoho was bad, it's terrible for Lee Scott. Lee Scott is in Auburn and there are four Huntsville-based teams in their Region. So at least two times a year on average they'll be on a long haul. And add in Tuscaloosa for the "short" trip.

Huntsville: ~215mi. (4hrs)
Tuscaloosa: ~160mi. (3hrs)

The other Double A private school that got shafted is Glenwood. Their NEAREST away game is 82mi. (1.5hrs). Otherwise it's Dothan and Mobile the rest of the year.

Dothan: ~100mi. (2hrs)
Mobile: ~250mi. (4hrs)

Absorbing this extra expense/requirement could lead to the end for some small, private school programs.

I think that had more to do with giving Birmingham some different meat to chew in the first round, and sending the North AL puppies somewhere other than the lion's den every year.

Gary Lloyd recently interviewed Coach Forester of Briarwood and Coach Mara of John Carroll. It was eye-opening. They talked about more than the football games and how the long distances were going to impact the other sports.

Coming home from a Friday night football game with no school the next day is a far cry from traveling home the same distance on a school/work night. I don't know how players and parents are going to cope with it.

The solution may be areas instead of regions, but that's going to result in some areas with very few teams. We don't even know yet what their playoff structure is going to look like.

All the players I know won't be around next season and won't be affected at all - players from Briarwood, Hoover, Oneonta, and Moody. After the class of 2026 graduates, I won't be going to games anymore.

I know that there was alot of travel in the playoffs for the larger classes but that is the playoffs. Think about a basketball game on a Tuesday night and having to drive 3 hours to play. It would be ridiculous.

This is where I make the joke they can just hop on a private jet with all the money they got.

But in seriousness travel is the one thing I side with them on. Go with areas.

GigTiger, I understand your hatred for private schools but both facts can be true. They did in fact get screwed on travel and they have been screwing public schools with recruiting. Not all but I am sure that well over half have recruited. It all worked out in the end.

Don?t sit here and talk about how private schools got royalty screwed on travel when public schools (rural county in particular) have been doubly royalty screwed for decades playing against private schools.

I've heard they may be shifting to area play to help out with the travel logistics
