Dora head football coach Chavis Williams resigns from post
Chavis Williams has stepped down as the Dora head football coach after five years at his alma mater. He guided the team to four straight playoff appearances before finishing 2-8 this season. He leaves Dora with a 30-25 record.
"Things have gotten stagnant. They need a spark," Williams said. "The kids have been great. I wish them nothing but the best. They will do well. They've got a good group coming up. Whoever gets the job next will be put in a good situation."
He's unsure of his next stop. "I'll be coaching again. Right now I'm just taking some time," Williams said.

And he's going to Russellville. The number of "He CAn'T CoMPeTe IN a lEveL PlAYinG FiEld" takes are killing me. If he wanted easy competition, he could have stayed at Mars Hill--or gone to any number of public schools where he WOULDN'T be the sixth most talented team on day one.
Yeah, part of me wonders if the private school split made him want out. Or at least stuck in the smaller class where only Coosa could give them a game. As in he WANTS a challenge.
I?d say it has more to do with retirement than it is anything. Otherwise, I think he would have stayed there and continued what he had
I would say its huge! a new challenge, getting his years in the state retirement system... and I assume a very nice raise to coach at Russellville only increases his retirement. Win Win! |
