The 2017 season begins this week with most schools
opening the football season. Here are a few tidbits
entering the season.
* The state's newest schools kick off their initial season this week.
Jefferson Davis County and Ashland.
* Simmons enters the season riding a 25 game
winning streak. Kemper County is second having won 15 consecutive contests.
Calhoun City and Indianola Academy follow with streaks of 14 straight victories.
* Brookhaven Academy hopes to end a string of twenty-three
consecutive losses this season. They are followed closely by St. Patrick's with a
string of twenty-two. New Site would have the longest streak at 24 consecutive
losses but will not field a team this season.
* Tishomingo County has lost 42 consecutive region games in a row
but do not begin region play for a few weeks. Jim Hill follows with a string of
29 straight region losses.
* Simmons has also won 22 straight regular season games. Indianola Academy leads
all MAIS schools with a streak of 28 straight regular season wins followed by
Kemper Academy with a 27 consecutive regular season victories.
* Charleston has a streak of 48 consecutive region wins
with no signs of slowing down this year.
They open region play in seven weeks.

Indianola Academy has won
32 consecutive home games. The Colonels open the season at home against
Pillow Academy this Friday night. Calhoun City leads all MHSAA schools with a
streak of 14.
* Simmons has won
17
consecutive road games. Jackson Prep has won the same number to represent
the MAIS.

Jackson Prep will try to extend their streak of 46 straight winning seasons. The
only losing season in the school's history was in their initial season of 1970. They should have little trouble extending the streak
in 2017.
* Wayne County hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of
consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 240 games
without being shutout. The last time they failed to score was back in 1999.
* East Side had won ten consecutive season openers but will not field a
team this year. The current streak belongs to four teams. Cathedral, Forest,
Philadelphia and Tri-County Academy are all tied and have won eight straight
season openers.
* Taylorsville will be working hard to extend their
string of qualifying for the playoffs to 28 consecutive seasons.

* Simmons has won a team record 25 consecutive games since 8/28/2015. * Kemper County has won a team record 15 consecutive games since 8/26/2016. * Pearl has won a team record 11 consecutive games since 9/16/2016.
Teams with current school record losing streaks
* New Site has lost a team record 24 consecutive games since 10/17/2014. * Brookhaven Academy has lost a team record 23 consecutive games since 10/10/2014. * Saint Patrick has lost a team record 22 consecutive games since 8/21/2015. * Olive Branch has lost a team record 13 consecutive games since 11/5/2015. * Unity Christian has lost a team record 13 consecutive games since 9/4/2015. * Leland has lost a team record 10 consecutive games since 8/26/2016. * Delta Streets Academy has lost a team record 9 consecutive games since 9/2/2016. * Byers has lost a team record 7 consecutive games since 9/16/2016. * Holmes County Central has lost a team record 4 consecutive games since 10/21/2016.
