I have come to the conclusion that the AHSAA list of state champions as listed on their website is flawed. I know of at least a couple of mistakes. First, Aliceville did not win the state title in 1948. I can verify several losses. I did find a couple of article where they claim the 1947 title with a 20+ game winning streak.

In the next few days I hope to put together enough to run a story about the 1947 Aliceville team and verify what I have believed for some time.

Other teams that the AHSAA claims won state championships that seem to be flawed are:
1947 Ramsay. They possible won in 1946.
1946 Ensley.
1935 Athens.

These I am fairly certain did not win titles. The 1946-48 seasons seem to be jumbled up in some way. I would email them but I have tried that route in the past and have yet to get a response from anyone there. I doubt anyone there has a clue anyway. I may try Bill Plott to see if he is willing to help with this.

I intend to keep digging until I find out what happened these years.

I have no idea where I found it now, probably the Birmingham News, but in my records I have listed next to the Shades Cahaba game with Aliceville in 1947 that it was the 'State Title Game'. On the SC schedule page the game is listed as being on 'Tuesday, Nov.11" which seems to me it might have been a hastily put together game being on an odd day of the week. That or it rained the previous Friday, seeing SC had no game that day.
