From the Cherokee County Post-Herald Collinsville High School is pleased to announce Daniel Garrett as the new Panther Head Football Coach. Garrett replaces Ernie Willingham, who announced his retirement following the 2019 season, which included a 12-2 finish and an appearance in the Class 2A State Semifinals. Coach Garrett comes to Collinsville from Madison Academy, where he served as the defensive coordinator for the Mustangs. Previous stops for Garrett include working for legendary coaches Dale Pruitt (Albertville) and Bob Godsey (Madison Academy/Hartselle). Coach Garrett has been part of two state championship coaching staffs. His first state title came in 2011 while serving as the Defensive Line Coach at Hartselle, as the Tigers brought home the Class 5A State Championship. Garrett?s second state crown came in 2015 at Nashville area powerhouse Ravenwood (TN), where he served as Outside Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Commenting on the hiring of Garrett, Collinsville High School Assistant Principal Bradley Crawford stated, ?When we set out to find a replacement for Coach Willingham, we wanted a coach with strong character, and who is an effective educator in the classroom and on the field. We also sought someone we felt has a tremendous grasp of the game, possesses outstanding organizational skills, and meshes well with the values that we want for our school and football program. Coach Garrett checked every box on our wishlist.? Coach Garrett added, ?I am extremely honored to be the next Head Football Coach at Collinsville High School. This is a place with a lot of tradition and community pride, which I cannot wait to be a part of. I am very thankful to Mr. Crawford for trusting me with this opportunity. I am also grateful that God has placed so many wonderful mentors like Dale Pruitt and Bob Godsey in my life to tutor me in the ways of being a great leader of men. I am just so excited to meet these players and coaches. We are going to work extremely hard but we are also going to have a lot of fun! It?s great to be a Panther!? Garrett is a graduate of Rogers High School in Florence, AL. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Alabama and earned his graduate degree from Arkansas State University.

From The Gadsden Times
Etowah stayed in house for its football coaching vacancy. Ryan Locke was approved as the new coach of the Blue Devils on Thursday evening at the Attalla City Board of Education meeting. Locke, 36, came to Etowah prior to the 2019 season as an assistant for then-coach John Holladay, whose resignation was accepted at last month?s board meeting.
For Etowah, continuity was important in the decision. Locke is the third coach in three seasons for the Blue Devils. But he?s not new to the program. Locke was the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for Etowah in 2019. He served as the interim coach after Holladay resigned. ?Coach Locke is a very good coach,? Etowah Principal Stephen Hall said. ?We?ll get some stability and we?ll get somebody who knows our kids. Somebody who cares about our kids. He?s got a great plan to reach out to our kids and help them.? Locke?s high school coaching career consists of stops as the offensive line coach at Tuscaloosa County (2018), the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Foley (2016-17) and the offensive line coach at Northridge (2015).
Locke is excited for his first chance to lead a program to be in Attalla.
?There are very few jobs in this state that have the reputation of Etowah High School,? he said. ?To have the opportunity to be the head coach there is not taken lightly. I?m very humbled and very honored. ?I know our administration had a lot of thought they had to put into this. I?m very grateful to (Attalla City Schools Superintendent) Mr. (Jeff) Colegrove and Dr. Stephen Hall for taking a chance on an assistant coach who has never had head coaching experience. That?s not an easy call to make, but I?m going to work tirelessly to prove to them, the city of Attalla and everybody who loves Etowah Blue Devil football that this is the right hire.? Locke spent time as an assistant coach at Cumberland University (2011-12 as offensive line coach; 2013-14 as offensive coordinator, quarterback and running back coach) and the University of West Georgia (2008-10 as tight end coach) prior to coaching high school. He was a graduate assistant at UAB and a student assistant coach at Troy University. Etowah has made the playoffs each of the last 10 seasons. The Blue Devils are 32-5 over the last three seasons with two Class 5A quarterfinal appearances in 2017 and 2018. Etowah will move down to Class 4A in 2020 for the first time since 1981.
