Clifford Story, Jr. Bio

Clifford Story, Jr. was born and raised in Lafayette, Alabama where he played football, basketball, and baseball for the Lafayette Bulldogs. The coaching bug bit him early while he was serving as the ball boy for the Bulldogs head football coach Ike Grant as a grade schooler in his hometown. Grant became Story's mentor and the two men still remain close to this day. During his senior year Story led the "Dawgs" to the state semifinals (the deepest playoff run in school history). Story played quarterback and linebacker while earning All-State honors at both positions his senior year of high school.
Story went to Jacksonville State University on an athletic scholarship from 1992-96, where he played football and baseball for the Gamecocks. While at JSU he played for two legends in Bill Burgess (football) and Rudy Abbott (baseball). The weight room and hard work at Jacksonville were good to Story as he bulked up and was moved to Tight End and eventually Defensive End where he thrived in the Gamecock's 4-3 defensive scheme.
After earning his degree in Health and Physical Education, Story became Coach Story as he began his career as a high school football coach as an assistant at Weaver High School.
From Weaver he moved to the Atlanta metro area and became the defensive coordinator at Riverdale High School. His Riverdale defense only gave up 12 points a game in 2001, as they upset South Georgia powerhouse Camden County in the playoffs before eventually being eliminated by the legendary Valdosta Wildcats.
In 2004, Coach Story was looking to get closer to home and returned to East Alabama to serve in a similar position on Robert Maddox's staff at Auburn High School. He stayed on the Auburn staff after Maddox retired and was instrumental in helping head coach Tim Carter lead Auburn to some of their most successful years in school history.
In the spring of 2009, Story decided it was time to lead his own program. After being associated with so many successful programs and high quality coaches over the years he believed he was ready to take the reins at Lanett High School as their head football coach and athletic director. This move would prove to be beneficial for Story and the city of Lanett and their title starved fans.
If the people of the old mill town beside the Chattahoochee were starving for titles before Story's arrival in Lanett - they must feel like they have been eating at a country church's homecoming celebration since the spring of 2010. With Story at the helm of the Panthers' athletic department they have won five state championships from May of 2010 to December of 2017. The Panthers have won two in track, two in basketball, and one in football. Also during his time at Lanett, the Panthers have had over 40 student-athletes sign athletic scholarships in track, basketball, and football. That is even more impressive when you consider Lanett's enrollment has hovered just above 200 students since his arrival at the small East Alabama school.
Story's football teams at Lanett have a record of 65-36 and have gone 10-4 in the post season. He has the most playoff wins of any Panther football coach in their nearly 100 year history. That history includes the likes of legendary coaches like Dan Washburn and Mal Morgan; both of their names are on the stadium in Lanett. Story and the Panthers brought home the AHSAA 2A State Championship in 2017, with a perfect 15-0 record. It was Lanett's first state title in the playoff era.

His football resume at Lanett includes, but is not limited to:
o Region championships in 2013 and 2017.
o Region runner-up in 2012 and 2016.
o Opelika-Auburn News Coach of the Year in 2017
o ALFCA state 2A Coach of the Year in 2012
o The only Lanett coaches to win more games are the aforementioned Morgan (81 wins) and Washburn (109).
o Lanett has played in the postseason five times in his tenure.
o Over 20 of his players have gone on to play college football.
o Most points scored in a season (630 in 2016).

Coach Story currently resides in the Lanett area with his wife, Krisse and two youngest sons - Kristian and Caden. Their oldest son, Clifford III (Tre) is a quarterback at the University of Richmond.
Tre was an All-State QB for his Daddy and led the Panthers to the fourth round of the playoffs and a 630 point season as he broke every Lanett passing record.
Kristian took over at QB when Tre graduated and has already started breaking big brother Tre's record. The first record to fall was passing touchdowns in a season - 43. Kristian was also selected to be an All-State QB with over 4,000 yards of offense in his sophomore season. He has already been rated four star recruit by Rivals.com
The youngest Story, Caden currently serves as the backup QB to Kristian as he prepares to enter his freshman year at Lanett.
Krisse is not only a wife and mother; she also works in the Lanett athletic department as the head volleyball coach, assistant girls basketball coach, and the "Aqua Mom" for the Panther football team.
As you can tell, Coach Story's success at Lanett has truly been a family affair and as the Panther Family prepares for their 2018 football season - the Story continues.
