Posted - 11/02/2011 : 19:25:21 In the end Clay-Chalkville will lose their appeal just like every other team in history has. It is very simple. The AHSAA is and organization that schools join voluntarily. They do not have to join the AHSAA but upon joining they agree to abide by the rules set forth. The state has no jurisdiction to say whether these set of rules are legal therefore a court does not have the right to overturn a decision by the AHSAA. It has been tried many times in the past and the AHSAA always wins in the end because of this single reason. "Schools do not have to be a member of the AHSAA but if they are they must abide by the rules"
End of discussion.
Am I anti-AHSAA? Not at all. Do they need to make changes? Not really. I could go on here but will leave it at that.

Posted - 11/02/2011 : 14:25:39 now, gadsden city has been granted an injunction preventing the clay-chalkville ruling from being applied. this seems to be getting out of hand and will affect every 6A playoff team in the north bracket. i don't have a dog in the fight but it seems unfair to every other team in the bracket by not knowing from one day to the next who to prepare for. there are also travel arrangements that have to be made, field preperations, etc. just my personal opinion, but gadsden city should be the # 4 seed and clay-chalkville should stop trying to find loopholes in the system to justify questionable actions. |

Posted - 11/02/2011 : 13:39:21 It's interesting to me how lately Clay-Chalkville seems to be the darlings of the Jefferson County system. The last time I can remember such an uproar over a team being taken out of the playoffs was back in 1983 when they removed Central-Phenix City. I still suspect they'll be taken out of the playoffs again. Rules are rules. The only difference between this situation and the past few years when Oxford and Hoover had to forfeit wins is this was the #1 team in 6A. That shouldn't make it any more special than the past instances.
