Season Openers for 2010

With the opening of the 2010 season last night football is in the air. Every team works during the off-season to get started on the right foot by winning their season openers. Some teams have put together impressive streaks when it comes to winning their first game of the season.

Tuscaloosa County and Opelika have won their last fourteen season opening contests. On Friday Tuscaloosa County hopes to continue that streak when they travel to Gadsden City to open the 2010 season. They will find a worthy opponent in the Titans but the Wildcats have a 2-0 record against Gadsden City the past two seasons.

Opelika will not have an easier task when they host the Wolverines from Carver Montgomery. The Bulldogs do hold a ten game winning streak against Carver since losing in 1983. Carver joins class 6A after a stint in 5A and will enter the season with one of their better teams.

Enterprise enters tonight's contest with Sidney Lanier having won thirteen season openers in a row. Davidson with twelve and Bessemer Academy with eleven are the only other teams with at least ten consecutive season opening wins.

According to our records T.R. Miller will be going for win number 600 this evening when they renew their rivalry with Escambia County. Waldon Tucker will be after another milestone in search of his 300th coaching victory against his son and the upstart program at Sipsey Valley.
